The entire Rising to make Public Places free from Sexual Violence campaign has been initiated and executed by our young volunteers. These students and early career professionals are working tirelessly to contribute towards making our public places safe for women.

Ongoing Activties:

  • Awareness Drives

Weekly participatory film screenings, dialogue and discussions to collectively (de)construct challenges and solutions for tackling sexual violence in public places to create a safe Vadodara!

Responding to the global call for revolution with the campaigns One Billion Rising and 16 days of activism against gender violence we’ve expressed solidarity through various events and activities.

  • Personal Safety and Gender Sensitization Workshops

Personal safety and gender sensitization workshop for an introduction to gender and to learn how to deal with gender-based violence and discrimination.

  • Space to Share

Weekly platform to facilitate sharing personal experiences and required information for any survivors of harassment/abuse or anyone who might be feeling stress, anxiety, confusion, helplessness.

Past Events:

  • Walk ‘n’ Paint

A unique Children’s Day event to sensitize Barodians for a safe, secure and violence-free Baroda for children. A collaborative and inclusive event in which specially-abled and abled children participated in wall painting, singing, dancing and raising their voice loud and clear for zero tolerance to sexual violence.

Pilot study from April to June 2015 to understand experiences/perceptions of safety and their relation to the physical characteristics of the places along with identifying unsafe spots.

  • Seminar and Workshop

National-level seminar “Reclaiming Public Places – Gender Inclusive Urban Planning and Design” to acknowledge the gravity of the issue of sexual violence in public places and a platform to brainstorm strategies with eminent experts, policy makers, activists, academicians, government representatives and concerned citizens.

  • Photography Competition

A photography competition “Give women’s safety a voice!” inviting entries for a safety exhibition during the seminar.
